El Dia de Los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, is a Mexican and Latin
American Holiday to honor and celebrate the lives of loved ones who have
passed away. For those not familiar with this tradition, the presence
of skulls everywhere may seem somewhat gothic, or even gory. When you
delve deeper into the meaning of it you discover the beauty of it: this
holiday celebrates and embraces their LIVES not their death, reminding
us of the little things they loved (their favorite candy or gum), their
favorite flowers, poet, clothing, color . . . ensuring that they are not
forgotten, but live on in our memories, and enabling us to share our
gratitude for all the little things that made up their life while they
were here with us.
A tradition of this holiday includes building private altars honoring
the deceased, using sugar skulls, along with some of the favorite items
that were loved of the departed, and visiting graves with these as
gifts. Of course this holiday also coincides with other fall
festivities, Halloween, All Saints Day, and All Soul's Day, in addition
to the celebration of the beginning of Fall and Harvest Festivals!
To help you GET INTO THE SPIRIT OF ALL OF THESE FALL HOLIDAYS, we've
designed some opportunities for you to stop in and express your
creativity!

Try out one of these fun and relaxing
projects, listed below. Just an hour or two, and less than $15, can do
wonders to boost your energy, creativity, and preparation for the fall
holidays!
1) Decoupage a pumpkin or gourd with our
fabulous French Papers from DECOPATCH. Unlike other tissue paper, they
are specifically created for decoupage: lightweight, but coated with a
special gloss so they don't shred when gluing. Zebra striped pumpkin
anyone??!! We also have a variety of other projects to decoupage as
well: frames, boxes, torsos and more. Prices start at just $9.99, and
included studio time, supplies and one-on-instruction!

2) JUST ARRIVED! We also have paper mache masks 5x8" and large
8" paper mache SKULLS to help celebrate the fall festivities. Use our
Decopatch papers or buy paint shots for only $1 per color! Or purchase
them for a fun take home project (masks: $6.99; 8" skulls:
$12.99). See skull pictured below . . .
2) Paint
a "sugar" skull: includes black or white glittered skull, plus 4 paints
shots, use of brushes and studio time! (view picture down below) Only
$12.99

3) Carve a pumpkin . . . out of stamp carving material, that is!! And
leave with your own custom stamp that will last for many holidays,
instead of just 1. We are convinced that ANYONE can carve their own
stamp, especially those that are useless with knives and messy,
pulp-filled pumpkins! Try it . . . hey, you can SAY you carved a
pumpkin . . . or a ghost, or a skull, or a bat . . . we have templates
to trace and EASY directions! Just $12.99 includes instruction and
materials. |
